Cool Stuff 2

This video is a song and dance from the Aztecs. It is a religion based song and dance. The drums represent the Four Directions which is four cardinal points. Mexicans thus believe that the numbers 4 or 5 are very important. The Aztecs believe that the central pair, up and down, is the divine pair. The music sounds kind of eerie and mystery to me. It also starts out in drumming which is interesting because Aztecs were a war based nation and they had they had the war drums.

This war drum is carved out of wood. The drum shows a face of a god on the drum side. They believe that the god of water and fire are controlled by man even in war.
People believe there are links to this god that is very similar to a chinese god of fire and water as well as there beliefs about them. I am not completely sure what that means but I will look into it more.

Here is a video of Chichen Itza when I went. The Equinox is a very famous one of their attractions today, but it was very personal to the Mayans. Here is information as well as how the Equinox affects the temple and the people. It's really interesting and (Bianca says Awesome!). =D

  1. I really love the first video. It has such an interesting sound. The man playing the high pitched whistle/flute thing? I have one similar to that, my mom brought it back from her trip to mexico. Its alot of fun to play. The beat of the drum is very simple and repetitive which is what were been finding very typical in alot of different cultures.
The picture you posted of the hand carved drum is really cool. The costume the man is wearing is very big and show off ish. I noticed he had shakers around his ankles. I'm sure that was because he danced while playing his drum:)

  2. Neat stuff Joyce! The first video really was eerie sounding. The flute thing sounded really other worldly. The drums along with it definately remind me of a war march. The drum is really upbeat, maybe to give the warriors more focus.

  3. The first video was really cool. The drum, once again was keeping the beat the whole time. I enjoyed listening to what think was the wooden flute? It fit so well with the rest of the instruments. I definitely don't think I could go around dancing and singing in that custome, especially with that head piece on. I would love to actually hear someone like this man play the drums like he looks like he is about to do with shakers around his ankles and this custome that looks like it is pretty heavy. When I traveled to Mexico two summers ago I had the opportunity to travel to the Chichen Itza with our resort we stayed at, but now, I kind of wish I had traveled there. One day I will go back to Mexico and definitely go see this! It is unbelievable! I really enjoyed watching your videos Joyce!
