Cool Stuff
This is a video of drummers from Gambia, Africa. My dad went on medical missions two years ago for three months and he brought back a Gambia tribal drum. It looked just like the drum that these men are playing. I also think it's really cool how they use there elbows to mute the drum sound.
Litefoot is the first Native American to represent in what has become the international phenomenon known as “Rap” music. Litefoot’s road to achieving his goals- rivals the most inspirational of success stories. It is a story of struggle, perseverance, belief in self and overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. He has become one of today's most well respected Native American entertainers and one of Native America’s most recognizable national public figures. A modern day warrior from the Cherokee Nation Of Oklahoma, Litefoot was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and currently resides in Seattle, Washington.
I randomly found this video but I thought the music was beautiful. It's created by a group artist named Black African Positive. Here is there myspace. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.channel&ContributorID=143131

I really liked the rhythm of the drums. Its so interesting to see two types of music make offspring genres. Native American rap. That definitely qualifies as "cool stuff."
ReplyDeleteI really like the last video clip that you put up. The music sounds like it's from Lion King!!!hahaha:) Also, the nature view that they give you in it looks really nice, and beautiful!!! My guess is this video is kind of like traditional pop music?
ReplyDeleteI love the video clips! It is vital that we see all of the things we are hearing about in class! I love watching the African men drum, they get so in to it and you can see their passion for it. I hope you are able to bring the drum that your father has to class! I would love to see one in person. I think it is important to put up (in this cool stuff section) stuff that resonates with you on a personal level--such as the last video clip that you put on because you found the music aesthetically beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe drumming is very nice. It makes me wanna dance. It's really neat as well that your dad got to help out those people on a medical missions trip.
ReplyDeleteI bet that there are several people in our generation that have Native American heritage and would enjoy seeing a blend of their heritage with the current music trends.
Black African Positive definitely sounds like something I could use during exam week just to chill out a little.
Some very interesting videos, Joyce. Thanks! (I can't believe you've managed to post both a Korean Christian rapper and a Native American rapper in less than a week. Wow.)
